Independent News & Media has appointed Allan Marshall to its board as a non-executive director with immediate effect.
This follows the resignation of David Reid-Scott earlier this week.
Mr Marshall is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Programme for Management Development.
He began his career in newspaper publishing in 1971 at a regional newspaper in Australia.
He moved to London in 1987 and worked in Associated Newspaers where was later appointed chief operations and technology director.
He is a founder of iMedia, a leading international advisory service to the publishing industry.
On Tuesday, the company said that with the resignation of Mr Reid-Scott the number of directors on its board had fallen below the minimum level of five required under its Articles of Association and it confirmed that it would make appointments to the board ''as soon as practicable''
Reid-Scott was the seventh director in eight weeks to step down from the company.
