New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that monthly factory gate prices fell by 0.5% in April.
This compares to a fall of 0.7% the same time last year and as a result the annual percentage change showed an increase of 2.8% in the year to April compared with a rise of 2.6% in the year to March.
The CSO says that during April the most significant changes were increases in computer, electronic and optical products and meat and meat products, while there were falls in dairy products, basic pharmaceutical products and machinery and equipment.
The figures show that the price of energy products rose by 2% in the year since April 2011, while petroleum fuels increased by 5.1%. The monthly fuel index for energy products fell by 0.4% in April while petroleum fuels decreased by 0.9%.
