Official figures show that trips to Ireland fell by 1.2% between January and March of this year, when compared with the same period last year.
The CSO reports that the number of visitors from Britain increased by 2.1% to 562,400 for the first three months of the year.
Trips abroad by Irish residents fell by 2.5% to 1.2 million according to the Central Statistics Office.
The Central Statistics Office reports that the number of visitors from North America fell 6.5% in the same period while visitors from Europe, not including Britain, also fell 3.7%.
The number of trips in total, by those visiting Ireland and Irish people going abroad fell by 1.9% to 2.4 million when compared with the first three months of last year.
