Gazprom profit jumps 35% to €44 billion in 2011

Gazprom's net profit for 2011 jumped 35% to $44 billion (€34 billion) on the back of strong global energy prices and rising exports.

The Russian gas giant is the world's largest natural gas producer.

It reported significant gains from sales to Europe and former Soviet republics while its profits inside Russia itself enjoyed only marginal gains, according to the company.
