150 Boston Scientific workers laid off

US medical devices company Boston Scientific is to lay off 150 employees from its Galway plant.

The workers being let go are all on short term contracts.

They were informed of the decision not to renew their contracts at staff meetings with management this week.

A spokesperson for Boston Scientific said that over the past 15 months around 400 employees were recruited at its Ballybrit manufacturing facility.

The extra staff were recruited to bring new medical products to the global market. Those products have now been launched and the company is returning to what was described as normal levels of employment.

Boston Scientific currently employs over 2,500 full-time staff in Galway. As well as a manufacturing plant, the company also has a research and development hub.
