A company, operating on both sides of the border, may create more than 50 extra jobs as it expands its production and exploration to find and mine further gold deposits.

Galantas Gold Corporation currently has a license in Northern Ireland and operates a gold mine in Omagh which employs 50 people.

It has recently been granted four exploration licenses in the Republic of Ireland.

Exploration is planned close to the border and south-west of the current license which may extend into the Republic.

The exploration in the Republic is at an early stage and will be enhanced by the €5 million EU funded, Tellus Border project, which is a regional exploration program administered by the Geological Survey of Ireland.

The extra jobs could be created within a year if the necessary planning permits are forthcoming.
