Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller took home a total pay packet of €1.2m last year. This was up just over €100,000 from 2010 thanks to a €611,000 performance bonus.

That bonus came on top of a basic salary of €475,000 and a pension contribution from the company of €119,000.

However, the airline did see revenues climb 6% while its pre-tax profits rose to €84.4m from €27.2m a year earlier, due to a number of once-off items in both years.

The number of passengers the airline carried rose by 1.8% to over 9.5 million last year.
