Official figures show a slight increase in the number of people travelling to Ireland between November and January.

The Central Statistics Office said the number of trips to Ireland rose by 1.9% compared with a year earlier to just under 1.2 million.

Visits from Britain - Ireland's biggest tourism market - were up 4.7%, and trips from the rest of Europe rose by 3%. North American visitor numbers fell, however, by 5.4% and trips from the rest of the world were down 9.4%.

The number of trips made by Irish people overseas fell by 1.6% from a year earlier to just under 1.17 million.
