AIB is to donate 39 of its most valuable pieces of art to the State. The bank is also making almost 1,000 more artworks available for public exhibition.
Today’s announcement follows discussions between AIB and the Minister for Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan.
AIB's art collection is estimated to be worth around €10m in total, with the 39 works going to the State valued at around €5m.
The 39 AIB pieces will go to the Crawford Gallery in Cork. 12 will transfer shortly with the rest moving to the Cork city gallery over the next two years
The first 12 pieces include works by artists including Jack B Yeats, Seán Keating, Paul Henry, William Scott, Roderic O’Conor, Walter Osborne and Patrick Collins.
The bank says the timing of the transfers will be determined by practical issues such as the management and care involved in dealing with a valuable art collection.
