Figures from Revenue show that its special investigations netted another €23m last year, bringing the total so far to €2.67 billion.
The tax authority said investigations into offshore assets last year brought in €10.6m, bringing the total from such probes to more than €972m. Investigations into trusts last year netted just over €4m, while probes into life assurance products yielded €3.5m.
Revenue also said that it carried out more than 11,000 audits last year, bringing in just under €415m.
There were 16 prosecutions for serious tax evasion, with 14 for customs offences.
The Revenue figures also show that more than 109 million cigarettes worth almost €46m were seized last year.
The cost of running Revenue last year was almost €392m. By the end of last year, its staff numbers had fallen slightly to 5,962 from just over 6,000 at the start of 2011.
