Exploration company Providence Resources has confirmed that it started drilling a new well yesterday at the Singleton field in England.
The Singleton field is located in the Weald basin and is 99% operated by the company.
The company said that drilling operations, with the KCA Deutag T49 drilling rig, are expected to take up to 100 days. The new well is the third new production well to be drilled over the past three years and the company said it forms a central part of its ongoing field development plan.
''This is a very busy and exciting time for Providence with the commencement of this onshore drilling programme in the UK as well as the ongoing offshore drilling programme at the Barryroe oil discovery, offshore Ireland, which is proceeding according to plan,'' commented Providence chief executive Tony O'Reilly.
