Global advertising bellwether WPP said today revenues jumped in the third quarter of 2011, as it reaped the benefits of expansion into emerging markets and tight cost controls.

Total revenues grew by 9% to £2.46 billion sterling in the three months to the end of September, compared with the equivalent period of last year, WPP said in a trading update.

WPP, which is the world's biggest advertising company by revenues, added that it had enjoyed double-digit growth across the Asia Pacific region, as well as in Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

"The geographic pattern of revenue growth chiefly reflected strengthening in the faster growing markets and an anticipated slowing in the US," the London-listed group said.
