Official figures show that the number of trips into Ireland rose strongly in the three months from May to July compared with the same period last year.
The Central Statistics Office said there were just under 1.95 million visits to Ireland in the three-month period, up 9.4% from a year earlier.
Trips from Britain - Ireland's biggest tourism market - were up 8.8%. Visits from North America and continental Europe were both 9.3% higher, while trips from all other countries were up 14.5%.
Recent figures have shown a pick-up in travel figures, but some in the tourism industry have urged caution, as the April and May figures last year were affected by disruption from volcanic ash.
Today's figures also show that the number of trips made by Irish people abroad fell by 1.8% from a year earlier to 1.97 million.
For the first seven months of this year, trips from abroad are up 11.8% on the same period last year, while trips made by Irish people are down 3%.
