Irish Daily Star firm says its advertising outperforming market

The company which publishes the Irish Daily Star newspaper has reported trading profits of €4.3m for last year, down 10% from a year earlier.

Independent Star Ltd is a joint venture between Independent News & Media and Northern Shell.

Revenue fell by 5%, but costs were reduced by 5.5%. The company said advertising fell by 1% over the year, adding that this was better than the overall market decline of 7%%.

The company earlier this year decided to close its Irish Daily Star Sunday newspaper, saying it had never made a profit.
