A report from property website Daft.ie shows that rents have remained largely unchanged in recent months.
Daft.ie said the average asking rent across the country in July was €823 a month, the same level as in July last year.
Rents in Dublin and Galway were unchanged from a year earlier, but rents in Cork city rose by 4.7%. Rents in Limerick and Waterford cities fell by 2% lower, while rents elsewhere were on average 2.6% lower.
Daft.ie economist Ronan Lyons said the number of properties available to rent in the five major cities rose from 6,000 on May 1 to 8,000 at the start of August. He said the increase was strong in Dublin, which meant rents in the capital stabilised after six months of rises.
