US healthcare company Alere has announced it is to create 100 jobs at a new international business service centre in Galway.
The jobs, supported by IDA Ireland, will be created over four years at the IDA Ireland Business & Technology Park, Parkmore East, Galway.
The firm is manufactures and develops products in the cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, toxicology, oncology and women's health areas.
The centre will oversee its commercial operations outside of the US. The jobs created are across a wide range of business functions at the centre.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said the announcement showed Ireland’s traditional strengths were still intact.
‘If we are to get out of the crisis we are in, we must build relentlessly on these strengths – including our high-quality workforce, our low corporation tax and other pro-business policies, and our established base of high quality international companies,’ he said.
Separately this morning technology firm Onwave has announced it plans to recruit 30 new employees to fill a range of vacancies.
The company has raised €4m to fund a pan-European expansion of its satellite broadband internet and television service, and is offering new jobs in Mullingar and Galway as a result.
