Brendan Howlin - Consultation on spending review

Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform, Brendan Howlin, is asking the public to submit proposals for saving millions of euro in every area of Government spending.

The Minister has launched a public consultation on the Comprehensive Review of Expenditure (CRE), which aims to identify savings in order to cut the State's spending levels.

Minister Howlin said that, while the review was underway within each Government department, he did not see the review as confined to the public service alone.

'The Government wants to know what practices people consider to be wasteful and can be eliminated, the future role of various bodies and agencies and what spending programmes could be reformed or organised in different, more cost-effective ways,' he said.

The public are being invited to make submissions on the spending review at http://per.gov.ie/comprehensive-review-of-expenditure/
