2,451 days were lost to industrial disputes in the first quarter of 2011, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

This compares with 4,217 days for the same period last year and with just 27 days lost in the last quarter of 2010. There were 3 disputes in progress in the first quarter of 2011 involving 335 workers and three firms. The three disputes began in the first quarter of 2011.

The vast bulk of the days lost to industrial dispute were in the transportation and storage sector, which accounted for 320 of the 335 workers involved in industrial disputes during the quarter.
