New figures show that 195 companies went bust this month, while there was a big increase in the number of receivers appointed.

Vision-net.ie said receivers were appointed to 62 companies in April, double the amount for the same month last year. There were no examiners appointed.

Vision-net.ie said 148 firms started the winding-up process this month, with their total liabilities estimated at €94m.

The analysis also found that almost 500 court judgments totalling €25m were awarded in April. It said 82% were against consumers.

2,892 new business started up this month, a drop of 26% from the previous month.
