New research indicates that nearly a quarter of a million people in Ireland have nothing left to live on after they have paid their bills each month.
This is according to the main finding of a new study commissioned by the Irish League of Credit Unions.
The survey was conducted to try to find out how much money people have left to spend or save after they have paid normal ordinary household bills, like mortgages, heating bills and car loans.
It found that for over 200,000 people their income does not even cover their living expenses and 750,000 people have just €70 left each month to live on after paying their bills.
245,000 people have nothing left to live on after they have paid out for mortgage and utility costs.
The survey also revealed that people are stressed about how they will cope if they have unexpected medical expenses or other unforseen bills.
Over 400,000 people believe there is no future for their families in Ireland.
