The new Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar, said the Government was working on a number of measures to restore employment in the tourism industry and to promote it.
However, Mr Varadkar said the Government would not introduce new measures without getting something back from the industry. He said that airlines would have to re-open routes that they previously closed if the travel tax were to be reduced or abolished.
The Minister also said the new Government's mandate on healthcare, political reform and job stimulation was different to that of the last government, but he admitted that the severity of its budget was still the same.
