Former Anglo Irish Bank chief executive David Drumm's finances were in a chaotic state at a time when he was running the bank and expanding its loan book, according to testimony given in Boston today.

The bankruptcy trustee, who has been questioning Mr Drumm asked him repeatedly why he had 20 to 25 bank accounts and why he did not tally up what he owed and what he owned at the end of every month.

Mr Drumm replied that he could not explain why. That was the way he ran his household affairs, he told the hearing.

Mr Drumm has declared himself bankrupt and is being questioned by the independent trustee of the court. Anglo Irish Bank says it is owed more than €11m by him. Other debtors are also looking for their money back.
