Exploration company Ormonde Mining has applied for a mining concession for a proposed Barruecopardo tungsten mine in Salamanca in Spain.
The application was made through its Spanish subsidiary Saloro.
Ormonde managing director Kerr Anderson called the move 'a major milestone' in its effort to start producing tungsten by late 2012.
'The documentation accompanying the submission outlines the operating and design criteria for the proposed mining operation and we will now liaise closely with both the local administration and competent authorities as the permitting process progresses,' he added.
Prices of tungsten have been rising on world markets as demand is outstripping supply.
