Official figures show that new car sales rose strongly again in November, as a boost from the scrappage scheme continued.

The Central Statistics Office said 2,146 new cars were licensed last month, more than double the 948 recorded in the same month last year.

Of November's new cars, 34.6% were petrol and 58.7% diesel. Renault led the way with 376 cars, followed by Volkswagen (266), Toyota (244) and Ford (179).

For the first 11 months of this year, new car sales are more than 56% ahead of the same period last year at 84,260, though this is still well below the figure of almost 146,000 in 2008.

The CSO figures also show that the number of new goods vehicles licensed last month was 428, down more than 10% from a year earlier.

Meanwhile, a survey carried out by the CSO shows that 92% of all businesses have a computer connected to the internet, while 68% have a website.

87% of the companies now have a broadband connection.
