Elan has appointed Robert Ingram as its chairman designate. He has been appointed to the company's board with immediate effect.
Mr Ingram will replace Kyran McLaughlin in January. Mr McLaughlin announced in April that he was stepping down.
Mr Ingram is the former boss of Glaxo Wellcome and former pharmaceuticals vice chairman of GlaxoSmithKline.
