Official figures show that euro zone retail sales rose by 0.5% in October compared with the previous month, when they fell.
The EU's data agency said retail sales rose at an annual rate of 1.8% - the same figure as for the 27-nation EU as a whole.
The highest monthly increase was logged in Germany, up 2.3%, with the highest annual improvement among all EU states coming in Poland, which jumped by 12.8%.
