O2 has announced it added 5,400 new mobile customers between July and September this year, bringing its total to 1.716 million.
Service revenue for that period was €198m, up from €193m for the months of April to June, but down from €213m for July to September in 2009.
The company said that data revenue continues to grow, driven by the increased use of mobile broadband and smartphone devices. It says this accounted for 12.4% of all revenue, up from 10.4% for the same period in 2009.
The average customer used 228 minutes per month during that period, up from 226 minutes for the same period the year before.
In a statement, O2 pointed to initiatives such as ‘O2 Treats’ and ‘Priority Ticketing’ which it said had been successful in retaining existing customers.
