Aer Lingus - New Shannon-Paris service

Aer Lingus is to begin a new service from Shannon Airport to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris on December 17. The route will run three times a week.

Aer Lingus now has eight routes from Shannon, including its regional services.

Shannon Airport director Martin Moroney said the airport was 'delighted' to welcome the new service.

'Paris is one of the world's most visited cities and Charles de Gaulle is one of the most important aviation hubs, with onward connectivity to more than 200 non-stop destinations,' Mr Moroney said.

Last month, Ryanair announced that it was closing its Shannon to Paris Beauvais route from November 1.

Ryanair to make Frankfurt Hahn cuts

Ryanair is to cut 30% of its flights at its Frankfurt Hahn base in Germany next summer.

The airline said its 2011 summer schedule will see its fleet at the airport cut to eight from 11. This will see flights falling to less than 400 flights each week from more than 500.

Ryanair says the move will result in the loss 150 Ryanair pilot and cabin crew jobs at the airport, though it says the staff affected will be offered the chance to re-locate to other Ryanair bases The airline claims the cuts will lead to the loss of 1,000 tourism-related jobs in total at Frankfurt Hahn.

The airline will also close nine routes from the German base to Agadir, Berlin, Gdansk, Gothenburg, Klagenfurt, Prague, Santiago, Sevill and Wroclaw. 15 other routes will also suffer reduced frequencies.

Ryanair says the German government's €8 tourist tax makes the country an uncompetitive tourist destination at a time when many other European governments have scrapped tourist taxes and/or reduced airport charges in order to grow traffic and tourism.
