195 jobs under threat in Dublin

Up to 195 jobs are under threat at UTC Fire & Security Ireland at Citywest in Dublin.

The company is entering a consultation period with staff but it is understood one of the options which the company is considering is closure of its operation in Citywest, Co Dublin.

Another option open to the company is a downsizing of its operation.

In a statement UTC said: 'UTC Fire & Security announced today a proposal to transfer all of the manufacturing functions performed at the Dublin facility to other UTC Fire & Security locations that manufacture similar product lines.

'This proposal comes as a result of the decision to simplify the organisation's structure and take advantage of existing manufacturing capacity to improve productivity and remain competitive in the global marketplace.

The proposed redundancies will affect approximately 195 permanent employees over a phased period of approximately 13 months.

A spokesman for the IDA said: ‘We have been informed that UTC is entering a one month period of consultation and a decision will be made on October 28.’

In March, 2010 UTC bought the security business of GE in Dublin and is now in the process of merging this with UTC Fire & Security.

UTC has two other operations in Ireland which are unaffected Pratt & Whitney Airmotive Ireland and UTRC.
