Ryanair blames charges for Shannon cut

Ryanair has announced a further cut in its services at Shannon airport.

The airline's chief executive Michael O'Leary has announced that, from November 1, its Shannon-Paris route will be closed and its Shannon-Gatwick and Shannon-Stansted services will be cut in frequency.

Speaking at a press conference in Limerick this afternoon, he blamed the cuts on the announcement last week by the Dublin Airport Authority of an increase in airport charges at Shannon. Ryanair said the increases came at a time when Shannon's traffic has collapsed.

Mr O'Leary also blamed the Governments €10 travel tax. He claimed the Government and the DAA were 'determined to destroy Irish air traffic, Irish tourism and Irish jobs'.
