A Cork company that designs aluminium window and door systems has announced the creation of 31 new jobs in an €8m expansion.
Architectural and Metal Systems (AMS), based in Little Island, Co Cork, today officially opened its new aluminium extrusion plant - the first of its kind in Ireland. The investment is being supported by Enterprise Ireland.
Aluminium extrusion is a process which produces lengths of precision aluminium profiles which are the essential raw material for aluminium window and door-makers, engineers and sign manufacturers.
AMS, set up in Cork 20 years ago, already employs 66 workers making aluminium products such as curtain walling, window and door systems and other components.
'This investment gives AMS a unique level of flexibility which is unrivalled in Ireland and very rare in Europe or the UK', commented the company's managing director Chris Martin.
Opening the plant, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O'Keeffe said the expansion was an important jobs boost for Cork. He said it would also lead to enhanced competitiveness for other Irish firms that will soon be able to source aluminium extrusion products here at home.
