CORK FIRM PLANS TO ADD 100 JOBS - A County Cork based company called SouthWestern this morning says it will hire 100 new staff by the end of the year.

Chief executive Jim Costello said SouthWestern looked after administrative functions for other companies which outsource such 'back-office' work. He said the company was involved in a wide range of areas, including telecoms, media and energy.

Today, the company is also being awarded the contract for the registration of the movement of animals by the Department of Agriculture.

NEWS IN BRIEF AND CURRENCIES - Vodafone Ireland says it added 6,000 customers in the three months to the end of June, bringing its mobile customer base to 2.15 million.

But the amount of money it made from customers - measured by average monthly revenue per user - fell by more than 9% to €35.10.

Drinks group Britvic Ireland has reported slightly improved figures for the three months to July 3, but has warned that this does not yet signal a sustained recovery in the soft drinks market.

In a trading update, the company said sales volumes were up 15% from the same period a year earlier, while revenue was 13% higher.

On the currency markets, the euro is worth $1.2883 and 84.18p sterling.
