The Commercial Court has heard that the former Chief Executive of Anglo Irish Bank, David Drumm, has written to the bank offering proposals to settle the bank's case against him.
Anglo is seeking orders requiring Mr Drumm to repay loans of more than €8m.
The action is due to be heard in October.
The court heard that Mr Drumm had written to the bank two weeks ago with an open offer of settlement proposals. His lawyers told the court that they had not received a substantive response from Anglo.
Lawyers for Anglo Irish Bank told the court they needed more time to consider the proposals. Mr Justice Peter Kelly said the bank should indicate if it was going to settle the case well before the trial in October.
He adjourned the matter for two weeks.
