US medical devices company Merit Medical is to create 100 new jobs through an €6.7m investment in its Galway operation.
The investment will involve Merit's entering the European surgical pre-pack business. As part of its plans, the company is also buying a €1.4m property in Parkmore East in the city.
Merit began operating in Galway in 1994, making guidewires and inflation devices which are used in hospitals. It currently employs 250 people in the city.
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O'Keeffe, said investment was significant for Ireland's life sciences sector, while the expansion would also lead to spin-off jobs in construction and services.
Merit CSO Fred Lampropoulos said the company chose Ireland for the expansion because of the success of its existing business in Galway and the skills of its management team.
