Euro zone inflation eases to 1.4% in June

Twelve-month inflation fell to 1.4% in June across the euro zone, after reaching its highest level in more than a year last month, official figures showed today.

Figures from the European Union's Eurostat data agency showed that 12-month inflation in the euro zone had risen to 1.6% in May, its highest level since December 2008.

Euro zone inflation had risen almost continuously from 0.5% last November as the bloc emerges from the worst recession since the 1930s before the drop in June.

Inflation remains below the European Central Bank's core economic target of close to but below 2%.
