Stream Global Services, a US firm that operates call centres around the world, is to create up to 400 jobs in Dublin.

The firm has won a contract with Microsoft to support customers of its Xbox 360 games console to the European market.

Stream currently employs about 300 staff at its Santry offices. A statement on the company's website said that the contract with Microsoft is expected to generate more than $50m a year in revenue for Stream.

It said that the Dublin office will provide multi-lingual support, offering 16 different languages for the company's European customers. An office in Oregan will provide support to Microsoft's US customers.

It said the initial phase of the implementation will be fully operational in the third quarter of 2010.

Spencer Stuart to set up shop in Dublin

An executive search consultancy firm is to create 100 high-tech jobs in Dublin over the next five years.

Spencer Stuart is to establish a new global technology and knowledge centre in the city. The new posts will be involved in software development, information technology support services and data quality and are being supported by IDA Ireland.

Spencer Stuart is one of the world's leading executive search consultancy firms and has a global workforce of over 1,200 workers.

Announcing news of the jobs, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O'Keeffe said that the firm is a welcome addition to Ireland's 'thriving internationally traded services sector'.

'Firms operating in the internationally traded services sector have located 'and expanded in Ireland because of our innovative workforce, low-risk environment, excellent infrastructure and favourable corporate tax rate,' he said.

'Spencer Stuart's decision to hub here shows Ireland has established itself as a top location for innovation-led knowledge-based global investments,' he added.

Meanwhile, DSG International - the group which owns Curry's and PC World here - plans to create 100 new jobs by end of the year nationwide.

85 new jobs set for Belfast

An IT company based in India is creating almost 85 new jobs in Belfast.

The investment will see L&T Infotech establish a European software development and maintenance centre.

Initially 85 new posts will created at L&T's base in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, although the chief executive, Sudip Banerjee said he was confident the number of jobs would be increased over time.
