The reports on the collapse in the banking sector are not likely to be published until next week.
Finance Minister Brian Lenihan received a report from Central Bank governor Patrick Honohan yesterday and another from two international experts before the weekend.
Following an initial consideration at today's cabinet, ministers decided to hold a special meeting next week to discuss the two reports - which will inform the terms of reference of a formal commission of inquiry - in more detail.
