The National Lottery has reported a drop in sales for last year, but said the total of just over €815m was still the second-highest in its history.
According to its annual report, total sales dropped 3%, but the lottery company said it had raised €263.5m for good causes, broadly in line with 2008. The National Lottery said it reduced its costs by more than €4m during 2009, though this included lower levels of commission paid out on lower sales.
Sales of Lotto and Lotto Plus games were lower, while EuroMillions sales dropped only marginally. Sales of scratch cards were also down, but the Monday Millions game generated €25.4m in its first year of operation. TellyBingo sales rose 2.4% to €14.3m.
