Cavan-based building materials group Kingspan is to create 163 jobs at its solar energy products plant in Portadown, Co Armagh, as part of a £47m expansion.

The development at Kingspan Renewables is being supported with £6.5m from Invest Northern Ireland.

Noel Crowe, the company's managing director, said it aimed to quadruple sales in the next five years. He added that, as governments set more renewable energy targets, the market for its products should expand.

The North's Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster made the jobs announcement as she officially opened the company's new plant.

Kingspan Renewables was set up in 2007, when the Kingspan Group acquired the Thermomax brand of solar vacuum tubes.
