Energy company Airtricity has said it will create 200 new jobs over the next year by entering the domestic natural gas market. The jobs will include 100 full-time positions at its headquarters in Sandyford in Dublin.

Another 100 jobs are being outsourced. The jobs are mainly in sales and customer service.

Airtricity says it will be offering customers a 10% discount on Bord Gáis's rates. Last year, Airtricity entered the electricity market and says it now has 200,000 customers.

It claims consumers could save more than €200 a year on their gas and electricity bills with its offerings. Airtricity is owned by UK energy giant Scottish & Southern Energy.
