New jobs from Sierra Bord Gáis deal

A subsidiary of Dublin-listed SiteServ says a new contract it has won from Bord Gáis could result in up to 90 new jobs.

Sierra Support Services says the contract - to provide boiler installation and servicing services to Bord Gáis - is worth €60m over three years. Sierra had been chosen as the preferred bidder late last year.

Sierra said it would incorporate the existing Bord Gáis Energy services into a new division which would initially employ 20 new full-time staff.

The company said it would also create a further 70 building services jobs over the next 12 months.

Separately, Sierra is to set up an office in Northern Ireland in order to expand its services into that market.

New research jobs at CRANN

In other good news, CRANN, the nanoscience research institute based at TCD and UCC, is to create 17 new jobs after it was awarded €15.5m in funding.

12 research and development jobs will be created to develop new nanomedical technology which will enable the early and rapid diagnosis of cancer.

Five other R&D jobs will focus on the development of the next generation of electronic chips.
