Aer Lingus cabin crew back plan

Aer Lingus - Cabin crew vote reversed

Cabin crew at Aer Lingus have voted by 92% to 8% to accept the airline's €97m cost-cutting plan.

This was their second ballot on the deal, which they rejected first time round by a margin of two to one. They had been the only group of workers at the airline to reject the plan.

Aer Lingus described the vote as a big step towards the delivery of the savings it had identified under the 'Greenfield' cost-cutting plan. Aer Lingus said it would now work with the IMPACT union 'to implement the productivity targets as set out in the Greenfield agreement'.

IMPACT said discussion last week at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) had given cabin crew clarification in a number of areas which enabled the union to put the cost-saving proposals to another ballot.

The union said it hoped this would mark the start of a new relationship with management, 'based on the principle of mutual respect'.
