Fast food chain McDonald's is to create 250 jobs in four new restaurants by the end of the year.

The company says the €12m expansion highlights the resilience of its business here despite the recession.

75% of the new jobs will be full time with the remainder full time equivalents. Three of the new restaurants will be in Dublin and one in the regions.

McDonald's already has 78 restaurants in Ireland. The new jobs will bring the number of employees up to 3,850.

Meanwhile, a McDonald's commissioned report by Indecon said today that the overall impact of the fast food giant's Irish operations is €198.7m each year.

It also said the company facilitates exports of Irish-origin food produce worth €396.4m to McDonald's internationally.

Indecon said over 250 Irish businesses supply over €15m worth of goods and services to McDonald's Ireland each year.

The McDonald's Corporation, which franchises and operates McDonald's restaurants in over 100 countries, is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is worth more than €68 billion globally.

Its shares are more than 20% higher than they were a year ago, as consumers opt for cheaper fast meal options.
