The current chairman of the Competition Authority, Bill Prasifka, is to become the new Financial Services Ombudsman.
A statement from the financial services ombudsman council said Mr Prasifka would take up the position by the end of March. He replaces Joe Meade, who retired at the start of this year. Mr Prasifka previously worked as the aviation regulator.
PJ Fitzpatrick, who was named as interim ombudsman on January 3, will continue in this role until Mr Prasifka takes over.
The ombudsman investigates, mediates and adjudicates on complaints from customers of financial institutions.
