Liam O'Mahony has been named as the new chairman of IDA Ireland.

Mr O'Mahony is a former chief executive of building materials group CRH. He is currently a non-executive director of CRH and is a member of the Irish Management Institute Council. He is also chairman of Smurfit Kappa group.

Mr O'Mahony is replacing John Dunne, who held the position for ten years.

Tánaiste Mary Coughlan said that Mr O'Mahony is taking up the position at a time when the country is facing significant challenges in the global economic environment.

'I have very confidence that Liam's valuable experience and knowledge will contribute greatly to the further development and enhancement of foreign direct investment in Ireland,' she added.
