The ISEQ index rose by 27% last year, according to its annual statistical review. This was after a fall of 66% in 2008.

The index's overall market capitalisation rose from €32.3 billion to €44.3 billion by the end of December 2009. The index hit a high of 3,492 points on September 17, while it reached its low of the year - 1,880 - on March 10.

During the year, two exploration companies listed on the exchange - Karalian Diamond Resources and Conroy Diamonds and Gold. Names that left it included Anglo Irish Bank, Newcourt Group, Qualceram Shires, Glencare Mining and Veris.

Today's review also reveals that there are now 39 companies listed on the main market, compared to 53 five years ago.
