Aer Lingus - Deputy CEO position to go

Aer Lingus has announced that Niall Walsh, the airline's deputy chief executive and chief operating officer is to leave the company. The airline said Mr Walsh would be leaving immediately to pursue other interests.

Aer Lingus CEO Christoph Mueller will temporarily take over Mr Walsh's responsibilities.

A statement said the role of deputy chief executive would be discontinued, but the airline would start an external search for a new chief operating officer.

In December, the number two executive at Aer Lingus resigned his position. Chief financial officer Sean Coyle had joined the airline from Ryanair only 17 months ago, in August 2008.
