Aer Lingus has welcomed its pilots' acceptance of a €30m cost savings package put forward by the arbitrator, Kieran Mulvey.
Pilots last night told their union, IALPA to enter discussions with the company to address implementation of the proposals, which include a 10% pay cut and up to 76 redundancies.
But, in a motion passed at the meeting, the pilots acknowledged that some aspects of the arbitration report had given rise to concern. These included outsourcing, pensions and increments. IALPA said that legal advice precluded them from recommending acceptance of those elements of the report.
Aer Lingus said it had already invited IALPA to immediate talks on the final elements of arbitration with a view to agreement on January 21. 'In this regard we recognise the pilots may require certain clarifications and the company will be happy to respond to this, the airline said.
Aer Lingus said it welcomed IALPA's statement as a constructive step forward for Aer Lingus shareholders and employees.
