New Secretary General at Finance Department

The Government has appointed Kevin Cardiff as Secretary General of the Department of Finance. He will take up his new position at the end of this month and is replacing David Doyle, who is retiring.

Mr Cardiff joined the Department of the Public Service in 1984. He joined the Department of Finance in 1987.

He has had a wide range of roles in the Department of Public Service and the Department of Finance. Most recently he has been the head of Taxation and Financial Services Division within the Finance Department.

As the financial crisis developed over the past 18 months, Mr Cardiff was asked to concentrate solely on financial services matters. In this role, he has worked closely with the Minister in formulating the Government's response to the crisis.

Mr Cardiff is in his late 40s and is a graduate of the University of Washington and University College Dublin.
