Sterling a factor in Rye Valley job losses

36 jobs are to go at Rye Valley Foods in County Monaghan. The company, part of the Kerry Group, said 30 of the jobs are to go in the production area with the remainder from office staff.

The company makes prepared frozen meals, almost exclusively for the UK market. A spokesperson for the group said the weakening of sterling had had a big impact and the company had to keep its costs under constant review.

The company will still employ 450 people after these voluntary redundancies.
